Summer Dance Intensive and Classes 2023July 3-August 12, 2023Schedule and RegistrationDANCE INTENSIVES - dance with world acclaimed guest artists from around the country - along-side Kanopy’s Artistic Directors and Faculty. Deepen your dance technique and artistry. Engage in creative activities. Learn, and learn about, these modern dance techniques, their different foundations toward the physical art of movement, their beginnings, and how artists through time create and find inspiration. Curriculum: Modern (Graham, Humphrey, Hawkins, Horton, Sokolow, Limon, Cunningham) Techniques, Ballet, New Contemporary Repertory, Masterwork Repertory, Choreography Lab & Improvisation; Stretch/Strength, Pointe, Pre-Pointe, Injury prevention/health, mentoring, journaling. In addition, GUEST ARTIST MASTER WORKSHOP with Tadej Brdnik, former Martha Graham Dance Company Principal Dancer will be offered for Intermediate and Advanced Dancers.
WEEKLY CLASSES: Beginning dancers ages 5-8: Learn modern and ballet dance
skills, creative exploration, learn to work as a group to create their
very own dances. PLACEMENT: Kanopy Academy Students enroll as follows: Beginning Intensive = Level 2-3; Intermediate Intensive = Level 4-5; Advanced Intensive = Level 5-6, K2. Please inquire about proper level, contact us at [email protected]. Placement adjustments may be made the first day for Intermediate and Advanced Intensive students. TUITION: Registration and Tuition Payment are required to secure a place in the Intensives and Classes. In-Person space is limited to ensure the health and safety of students and faculty, and is on a first come, first serve basis. Enrollment is ongoing through the summer subject to availability. Intensives and Classes have a payment plan option you may choose during registration process. No refunds.

Guest Artist Master WorkshopMartha Graham Technique & Repertory with Tadej Brdnik, former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company in New York City.July 3-July 9, 2023 For Advanced and Intermediate dancers, ages 13-adult. (Level 4, 5, 6, K2) ![]() TADEJ BRDNIK is a program director, educator, regisseur, curator, choreographer, and former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company. He began his career in Slovenia and has danced with Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project, Robert Wilson, Battery Dance Company, and in works by Maurice Béjart, Nacho Duato, Lucinda Childs, Yvonne Rainer, Susan Stroman, Anne Bogart, Doug Varone, Andonis Foniadakis, Larry Keigwin, among others. He appeared in the feature film “Noah.” Tadej choreographed works on Battery Dance Company, Graham 2, Teens@Graham, and Milwaukee Dance Theater, among others as well as for Slovenian National TV. He was Assisting Choreographer to Susan McClain’s “Ardent Song (Redux)” and Luca Veggetti’s “The Tempest Songbook,” both for the Martha Graham Dance Company. Tadej teaches internationally, at the Graham School and for “Dancing to Connect.” He is currently a full-time modern faculty at the LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, and a regisseur for the Martha Graham Dance Company. Formerly he held positions such as Education Director for the Downtown Dance Festival and Programs Director for the Martha Graham Dance Company. He is a recipient of The Benetton Dance Award and the Eugene Loring Award and is a BAM/DeVos Institute Performer in Transition Fellow. Students will have an accelerated in-depth study in Graham Technique and Contemporary Repertory. Informal time taken for Q&A about the artist, being a dancer, careers in dance, and more. There will be an informal showing Sunday July 9 with Kanopy Dance Company and Workshop students TBA. Workshop students with permission from Kanopy Directors may observe rehearsal process with Kanopy Dance Company and guest artist.
