Venture into a questing dreamscape of mystery and nuance as physical theater and modern dance marry into an evening of angst, solace, and vibration…

A confluence of dancer/actors from across America and Europe join Kanopy for a mysterious and powerful evening.

“A Strange Day for Mister K,” a world premiere of corporeal mime physical theater and dance written especially for Kanopy by recognized leaders of the genre: Steve Wasson and Corrine Soum, Artistic Directors of London’s Theatre de L’Ange Fou and White Church Theatre Project, Spring Green. Former Martha Graham principal dancers, Graham dancers, and Kanopy Dancers perform together in this Kafkaesque tale.

Also on the program, Steve Wasson and Corinne Soum perform “Resonance II,” a duet based on the founder of Corporeal Mime, Etienne Decroux’s “La Meditation.” Former Graham Principal Dancers and Graham dancers: Donlin Foreman and Jenny Emerson Foreman dance their “A Man and A Woman Sit Near Each Other;” Martin Løfsnes and Carrie Elmore Tallitch create a duet of energies; Sandra Kaufmann and Deb Goodman reprise Lisa Thurrell’s “Lamentation Variation.”

"Lamentation Variation" created in association with, and using the creative structure provided by, the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance. Re-staging of "Steps in the Street" licensed through Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance.

Grace, hope, beauty, tenderness: uplifting human cornerstones for expanding above the shadows of war…

In homage to the founder, we present selections from Martha Graham’s iconic Appalachian Spring, danced to Aaron Copeland’s uplifting music. Debuted at the height of WW II, it is an American dance of grace and expansive hope.

Miki Orihara, Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company will perform a solo from her recent concert ‘Resonance’ that premiered at LaMama, NYC.

Lisa Thurrell’s powerful ‘Miserere’ (Have Mercy), International Bonnie Bird Choreography Award nominee, reveals humankind’s struggle to reach the divine. Robert E. Cleary premiers an homage; and Kanopy will perform NYC choreographer Stanley Love’s ‘Bonewash.’

Re-staging of selections from Appalachian Spring licensed through Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance.
